Welcome!

This website is currently the focus of discussions toward what is intended to eventually be a registered association representing recreational users of the backcountry of Algonquin Park.

Many of us who value Algonquin's backcountry campsites, trails, waterways and forests are becoming increasingly concerned over what we feel are threats to their preservation, protection and improvement. We also believe that important issues affecting recreational use of the park's backcountry can be best dealt with by a formal association of such concerned individuals.

Some of Algonquin Park's backcountry recreational users are becoming concerned over the increased wear, tear and abuses that campsites are being subject to. This concern includes a desire to have all campers better educated in low-impact practices and to have a higher degree of backcountry enforcement of associated regulations.

Other users are strong supporters of the recent "Recommendations of the Ontario Parks Board - Lightening The Ecological Footprint of Logging in Algonquin Provincial Park", but were frustrated that while organized logging interests made strong objections, there was no opportunity for backcountry recreational users to show their organized support of the recommendations.

Similarly, other backcountry recreational users are frustrated over inadequate government funding being provided for the adequate maintenance and improvement of backcountry features such as campsites and portages.

With increasing use and abuse of Algonquin Park's backcountry, and with increasing organized pressure from conflicting interests, it is only prudent that backcountry recreational users come together in a formal association to represent their interests.

If you are an "Algonquin Park Backcountry Recreational User", you're invited to take part in these discussions and to see the process through its planning, formation, registration, promotional and into its ongoing operational activities.

Together we can all make a difference!
