About
the founders of Outdoor Adventure Canada
Outdoor Adventure
Canada is an online magazine owned and operated by GJ Studios
in Brant County, Ontario, Canada.
Bryan and
Laurie March came up with the concept for Outdoor Adventure Canada
a decade ago on a fall hiking trip. They returned home to do some
online research about Canadian backpacking trails. Both Laurie
and Bryan became extremely frustrated by the amount of web searching
required to find good information about the Canadian outdoors.
Laurie, being a graphic designer and writer, realized that what
people needed was an eye pleasing and informative web site that
focused on Canadian outdoor activities; a web site that would
become a fun and entertaining forum for backpackers, paddlers
and hikers alike. After gathering a team of writers, an editor
and doing a considerable amount of research, the project became
a reality and Outdoor Adventure Canada was launched.
A
little history about the key people at OAC
Bryan
has been camping, canoeing and hiking since the tender age of
eight. It is strongly believed that his gear obsession was established
even as a small child. His unbelievable tarp skills and propensity
for rain should earn him an award. If only there was a trophy
for the most creative use of a tarp! As a photographer he has
a deep interest in wildlife and the night sky (when the rain has
stopped long enough for him to see it). After a long history of
car camping, canoeing and hiking, Bryan took his outdoor adventures
one step further; with a backpack.
Laurie
was born and raised in rural Ontario. Growing up in the country
gave her excellent opportunities to view wildlife, hike, camp,
snowshoe, cross country ski, and orienteer. A 4-H outdoor living
course taught her the basic survival and outdoor skills. After
more than a decade of participating in outdoor activities with
Bryan, she has developed a tolerance to rainy weather and purchased
impenetrable rain gear. Laurie enjoys backpacking, stargazing,
and the outdoors in general. She is most often the last one into
camp because she stops to smell every flower; look at every leaf;
and photograph every vista.
Laurie is
also an accomplished camp cook. Her trail recipes have been featured
in Backpacker Magazine, Lipsmackin' Vegetarian Backpackin' and
The Joy of Backpacking. Her first wilderness cookbook, A Fork
in the Trail, was released by Wilderness Press in January
2008 and her second book, Another Fork in the Trail, will
be released in Spring 2010. She also teaches wilderness cooking
workshops in Algonquin Provinicial Park and privately. Visit the
website for A
Fork in the Trail to obtain details about such workshops
and other appearances.
Samantha
Rogers is our director of advertising and she adores camping
with her husband and three young children. She's also our resident
expert on kayaking and camping with dogs. Samantha is an author
as well and has written articles for Outdoor Adventure Canada
and Costco Connection.

There are
several other people who are instrumental in the success of Outdoor
Adventure Canada. Each member of our team has a long list of people
who have helped along the way but there are a few that we feel
must be mentioned.
A special
thank you goes out to our readers because without your readership
and forum participation we would not be here.
Thanks to
our team and our writers (past and present) - without your hard
work this would not be possible.
A big thanks
to Samantha and Michael Rogers and also Dave
Gillen for the friendship and support. Thanks to Shelley and
Claude Lauzon for the encouragement, help with finding ingredients
and for just being great friends. Shelley your Salmon Cakes rock!
We would
also like to thank Wenonah Canoe, MSR, Brunton, and Jim Stevens
at Johnson Outdoors for their continued support.
Last but definitely
not least... thanks to Tim
and Christine Conners (and their awesome kids) for the inspiration,
the constant encouragement, being courageous enough to come up
to Canada and canoe with us not to mention the Fabulous
Fry Brownies at the Cascades.
