How to Knit in the Woods
A must have for all knitterly-outdoor enthusiasts by Shannon Okey

©2009 Samantha Rogers for Outdoor Adventure Canada

If you were to come across me on a backwoods trip and searched my pack you would find I have all the essentials with me - including a knitting project. Not only am I a fan of the outdoors, but I'm an experienced and devoted knitter as well, which is the reason I excitedly volunteered to write the review for Shannon Okey's How to Knit in the Woods. Knitting and wilderness, it doesn't get much better than that.

Featuring 20 easy-to-follow wilderness inspired patterns such as Lace Camp Stool, Yodel Hiker's Tote, Cougar Mountain Socks, Camp Towel and Ell Pond Nalgene Cozy this book allows a knitter to create useful items for at camp and home. Projects range from novice to intermediate; from beautiful lace and cable projects to fabulous yet simple stockinette stitch projects intentionally created to make them easy to knit while working by firelight - there is a pattern for every knitter to enjoy.

Shannon gives us ideas on how to pack our knitting necessities as light and compact as possible, which as every outdoor adventurer carrying their life in a single pack knows is very important. She also touched on how to choose the best yarn for knitting in the outdoors, and included a thorough knitting refresher course and other helpful techniques.

With its full color pages, crisp, clean layout and easy to read patterns, How to Knit in the Woods is a must have for all knitterly-outdoor enthusiasts.
