Moose Mountain Provincial Park
Car Camping
in Saskatchewan
© Outdoor Adventure Canada

It is the time of year when families start to get ready for their summer vacations. Perhaps Dad is looking forward to a week on the golf course perfecting his swing or the kids want the thrill of zipping down an eight storey waterslide or Mom wants to go horseback riding or gather her thoughts on a beautiful nature trail. Moose Mountain Provincial Park has an adventure for everyone.

The campground is nestled at Lake Kenosee, Saskatchewan and provides all types of camping opportunities from backcountry camping to sites that will accommodate big RVs. There are non-serviced to fully serviced sites in the campground and facilities include potable water, showers, washrooms and firewood. You must have a burning permit for a campfire.

Golf Kenosee is a fully equipped 18-hole course set in the scenic Moose Mountains. Expect tree sheltered fairways, grass greens and the breathtaking scenery of Kenosee Lake. The forest surrounding the course is made up of white birch, poplar, fir and ash trees. There are also two miniature golf courses for the not-so-serious golfer among us.

Water is big at Moose Mountain. Swim at the beach or have fun at the Waterslide Park. Kids will love the eight-storey Kenosee Superslide and the less adventurous can relax on a tranquil inner tube ride through the canal. There is a fabulous hot tub that seats 150!

Moose Mountain Provincial Park also offers a wonderful nature experience. For those who enjoy birding there are bald and golden eagles, wrens, scrappy flycatchers and yellow warblers, to name a few. There is also a great deal of wildlife including moose and elk. At night you may hear the barking of coyotes.

The Lakeview Trail and the Beaver Lake Trail are perfect for day hiking or you could take a multi-night backpacking trip on the 150 kilometer (93 mile) trail system which also allows biking and has winter uses such as cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling.

Kenosee Riding Academy offers guided trail rides for the whole family and pony rides for the little adventurers. Overnight outings for groups are also available with prior notification. This is a fantastic way to experience Moose Mountain and step back to the days of our forefathers.

Cannington Manor Provincial Historic Park is about 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) from Moose Mountain Provinical Park and is a must-see. Parts of the village have been restored and the Visitor's Center was recently renovated. The village only prospered for two decades and was desolate by 1900.

Moose Mountain Provincial Park is a great place for the whole family to play and spend time together with a variety of activities to keep boredom at bay.

More information is available through the park's website at http://www.se.gov.sk.ca/saskparks.
