Outdoor Adventure Canada
We
here at Outdoor Adventure Canada (OAC)
enjoy hitting the trail early, but with a substantial
breakfast that doesn't slow us down; the kind of breakfast that
warms the body on a chilly morning.
Recently
the staff at OAC sampled the Quaker Instant Oatmeal* from Quaker
Oats and Cream of Wheat** from Nabisco. We chose these two products
because of the convenient single serving packets. The packaging
is also waterproof and lightweight.
Both have
the same preparation, but the flavor and texture is slightly different
because they come from different grains. Dried fruit is found
in some of the flavors and the products hydrate nicely. It isn't
recommended to make the oatmeal in a mug, even though more portable,
as it does not hydrate very well. If you like milk on your cereal,
be sure pack some of the powdered kind.
At a cost of 30 to 40 cents a serving, these products are an inexpensive
way to add variety to your breakfast. If you are participating
in an activity such as backpacking you may want to consider eating
more than one serving because of the energy consumed by your body.
Who knows some of the staff might even give up the odd muffin
or donut during our busy work week for a bowl of hot cereal.
