To me it sounds idyllic! But, a friend of mine had this job for 2 seasons while he was studying Environmental Management at Sandford Flemming College. As a result, he hates Algonquin Park! Described it as back breaking, buggy and boring. I took him and his family back there late last year. It was his first time in the park in 18 years. Turns out he didn’t hate the park after all. They’re coming back again this July!

I don't think you have to be certified... but it sounds like you have to be willing to take it.

"navigation and the practices/techniques of outdoor living in order to obtain Ontario Recreational Canoeing and Kayaking Association (ORCKA) Basic Canoeing Level 2 certification"

According to ORCKA the Basic Canoeing Level 2 is...

"A tandem course designed for those with little or no canoeing experience. It is suitable for anyone who wants to become more efficient in their paddling skills and those who want to gain control of their canoe. The focus is on basic knowledge, safety and paddling skills. All other canoe training builds upon the fundamentals taught on this course."
