A Quick Clean up in the Wilderness
The Wipe - not just for babies
© Outdoor Adventure Canada

I have a girlfriend who would just cringe at this tidbit. You see she is one of those people who must bathe completely everyday, not because of dirt or odor, just because she feels the need to. I know on some trips she is appalled when I don't have a full bath. That said I do keep myself clean and far from stinky... I found something that is fast and works well. You see another girlfriend of mine, who is an avid backpacker and has done many thru-hikes, taught me about the anti-microbial wipe. No wipes aren't just for babies.

The nice thing, for me anyway, is on a cold morning I can use a wipe or three to freshen up my body without freezing my butt off. By not having to heat water first thing in the morning I can get on the trail or in the canoe much earlier. If I need to I will have a bath at the next camp later in the day when the air is a little warmer.

I go for the anti-bacterial hand wipes for sensitive skin. Beware of baby wipes as they don't really get rid of the bacteria as well. All I do is put them in a zippered freezer bag and make sure all the air is out. To make things easier I put that bag into a larger zippered freezer bag along with a little bottle of hand sanitizer and a roll of toilet paper. I also place another baggie inside the larger bag. I use this second bag for the used wipes and keep it sealed. After all if you pack it in… you must pack it out.

So I hope you find this little tip helpful.
