Canoesongs Volume II
Another welcome addition to the canoeist's collection
© Outdoor Adventure Canada

The gang at Outdoor Adventure Canada loved Canoesongs Volume I so much that we jumped at the chance to review Volume II upon its release. When the disc arrived the song list of fourteen tracks revealed some familiar names and I promptly popped the CD into the player. Although I am rather partial to Volume I - it has been the background music for many planning sessions here - Volume II is equally endearing. Eight of the tracks were recorded just for this compilation.

"Canoeing My Troubles" Away by Shelley Posen struck a chord with me and it seemed to sum up just how canoeing makes me feel. "Eskimo Roll" sung by Nancy White is one of those quirky and upbeat tunes that sticks in your head. There isn't a song on Canoesongs Volume II that we didn't like. Dave Hadfield's "Cry of the Wild" is one of my favorites. It is an uncomplicated combination of fiddle and vocal that reminds me of a morning paddle on a glassy lake. Another great song that makes us think of another time is "Les Voyaguers" by Mike Ford. Of course, I always love anything by James Gordon and Lessons of the "Path and the Paddle" is on my list of favorites.

The only problem we have with the Canoesongs series of CD's is deciding which of the two Volumes to listen to.

Editor's Note: More information and track samples are available at canoesongs.ca.
Once again a portion of the proceeds goes to the Canadian Canoe Museum.
